About Us

Hudson River Teachers FCU was founded by a small group of local educators over 70 years ago to serve the unique financial needs of people like themselves and those of their families with the goal of creating a member-owned, co-operative financial institution where members could help one another. Since that time, Hudson River Teachers has grown to more than 6,000 members and now serves the financial needs of over 50 school districts, municipalities and corporations in the Hudson Valley area.

History

Our Goal
To improve the quality of our members’ lives by maintaining a strong, secure, and innovative Credit Union that builds trust, shows respect, and maximizes efficiency.

Our Story
Hudson River Teachers Federal Credit Union was established in June 1938 to serve the employees of the public schools in the communities of Hastings-on-Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Ossining, Peekskill, Croton-on-Hudson and Ardsley, New York. In our 70+ year history we haven’t strayed from our initial purpose of “People Helping People.”

The primary driving force behind the credit union’s success is exactly what it was over 70 years ago. Hudson River Teachers FCU remains a not-for-profit cooperative that exists to meet the financial needs of its membership. The members are the owners of the credit union.

This ownership structure is one of the two major factors in the credit union’s ability to offer favorable products and services. Without a separate group of stockholders or private owners demanding a return on their investments, all net income is given back to the membership directly or set aside for reserves. When the Board of Directors makes decisions as to interest rates, fees or services, their goal is not to maximize the return to outside owners. It is always to do what is best for the membership.

We embrace the opportunity to offer our benefits to our neighbors and others within the community as we continue to add new and diverse groups to our field of membership.
